If you love games and puzzles, I cannot recommend doing an escape room enough. They are SO fun, and great for a unique night out with other couples or as a family.
Our family of five recently went to Escape Room Novi, however, there is location in Brighton as well that has different rooms. We love both locations!
Our Experience at Escape Room Novi Candy Factory
On our visit, we checked out one of the newest rooms — Candy Factory — which is a moderate room that can easily be done with older kids. For reference, my kids are just about 8, 10 and 11. I wouldn’t go much younger personally unless the adults in the room are great a puzzles!
Rooms can fit up to 8 players, and while this one was do-able with 5, but I always say, the more, the merrier! It would be super fun to add in grandparents or aunts and uncles too.
Upon entering the room, we were instantly transported into a unique space that makes you feel like you’re in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie.
Our 60-minute timer began promptly after a short video highlighting what the puzzle was about. Our end-goal was to go through a series of wacky challenges in order to get our very own Sir Ripple Sugartonton Candy Factory in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The thought that goes into each and every item in the room is incredible. The props, names of characters and small details make it feel like a real like game of clue.
In this room, I especially loved the door that looks like chocolate with a bite taken out of it 😉 And how about that flooring?!
Not to mention all the special effects…Between lights, noises, ambiance, and even smells, it’s a neat experience. It’s pretty cool to solve a part of the puzzle and have a door or drawer open in another part of the room. I wish I could share all the hidden surprises, but I wouldn’t want to spoil the fun!
With a handful of helpful hints along the way, we managed to escape with :29 seconds left on the clock. PHEW. That got intense, but I loved how our family banded together in a great display of teamwork toward the end because we needed every person contributing to make it happen!
The kids say they loved it, and look forward to more escape rooms as a family in our future!
Booking an Experience
It’s easy to book an experience at Escape Room Novi:
- Go to their website and look through the rooms available to choose what experience you’d like
- Book and pay {games are for 2-8 players. The more you have, the easier it will be. If you have a larger group, you can choose two different rooms and race each other.}
- Arrive a few minutes early to prepare for your game.
- The room moderator will go over rules and set the clock for 60 minutes.
- Dig around the room for clues — look for patterns, numbers, puzzles, etc. Ask for a clue if you truly get stuck. Each round has three clues available; you just need to ask on an intercom inside the room.
- Have fun!
Local Spots Nearby
Walkable spots for some food include Bar Louie, Black Rock, Beer Head Bar & Eatery, Buddy’s Pizza, and HUB Stadium. We also love doing glow putt-putt golf at The Putting Edge. It’s such a great plaza full of fun, so it’s a great destination for couples and families.

Additionally, they have a few mobile escape experiences as well, which would be perfect for a birthday party or team building activity with your office.
