Because I LOVE making lists, I jumped at the chance to create a summer bucket list. Unlike my usual new years resolution lists, this should all be completely attainable – and low-cost – after all, I’m a gal on a tight budget.
Here are 50 things I hope to do for myself and with my family this summer:
1. Make bubbles and show Little K the magic
2. Feel sand between my toes…with an adult beverage in my hands
3. Build a sand castle for Little K and let her feel the sand in her hands
4. Watch a sunrise
5. Watch a sunset
6. Learn more about photography…and take TONS of photos
7. Read a new book (The Help is next on my list – didn’t get The Help yet, but read books!)
8. Taste some new Michigan-made wine and beer
9. Learn to make more exciting baby purees
10. Go to the Detroit Zoo as much as possible to maximize our membership
11. Feed the neighborhood ducks
12. Go to a local water park with Little K
13. Encourage Little K to crawl (she’s 8 months and still not very interested)
14. Learn some new summer recipes
15. Walk the gardens at Meadowbrook, a local gem
16. Pick blueberries to freeze
17. Eat ice cream for dinner
18. Plant some flowers (Yes, I still haven’t…)
19. Post on this blog 5 days a week (eek!)
20. Take a long walk each day…without my cell phone
21. Remember to kiss my husband and say “I love you” at least once a day
22. Gaze at the stars
23. Volunteer at a local event
24. Watch fireworks
25. Make a new summer song playlist
26. Enjoy a bonfire
27. Attend another Tiger’s baseball game
28. Ride a jetski
29. Take Little K on her first pontoon ride
30. Swim in multiple lakes
31. Go on a picnic
32. Do something to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary…finally (plans set!)
33. Go on a hike through the woods
34. Capture photos of a rainbow
35. Tube down a river with girlfriends
36. Read books to Little K on our outdoor swing
37. Go to a new local farmer’s market
38. Check out an event at a local library
39. Visit Eleanor and Edsel Ford House to tour the grounds
40. Hear live music outdoors
41. Check out neighborhood garage sales for hidden treasures
42. Attempt to speak with my neighbors more
43. Get a free slurpee from 711 on 7/11 (FAILED!!! But got a slurpee on another day!)
44. Make my favorite summer treat – fruit pizza
45. Try a new, fun local place to eat (Hippo’s Hot Dogs to be specific)
46. Go to the movies…since I haven’t been in 8+ months
47. Take some bike rides with Little K in her trailer
48. Walk the Dequindre Cut in Detroit
49. Eat every meal outside at least for one day
50. Wake-up everyday with a smile…because the sun is shining and we are blessed.
I’d love to make this list 100 things to do! Feel free to drop me a comment with any ideas of fun, low-budget things to do with a baby who is >1 year old.
Thanks, Mama Kat for the fun prompt!

What a precious baby! This is a great list. And, I so didn’t know 7-11 would be giving free slurpees on 7/11…count me in!
Visiting from Mama K’s…here’s what I wrote:
Naptime Vlog
Mrs. Weber says
Yup, it’s their annual tradition! Super yum.

When I looked at this prompt, I thought “No Way” – it seemed impossible to come up with 50 things to do this summer! But yours is a great list!
Please keep us posted as you cross off each item on that list!
Mrs. Weber says
I thought the same thing…I almost didn’t do Mama Kat’s at all and then I was showering and thought of 20 things, so I figured it would be easier than I thought 😉 My best ideas seem to always come when I’m showering!
Lisa says
You rock! I didn’t make it to 50 and I’m not limited by entertaining a near toddler. Good-luck with your summer!
Mrs. Weber says
Thanks so much! I still love your list – it’s smaller, but the words make it mightier 🙂

I love your list. Great ideas. Your daughter is adorable 🙂
Mrs. Weber says
Thanks so much for “bee”ing my friend!
Sarshie says
I love this! You’ve inspired me to make one of my own. I may steal a lot of these (or perhaps I can join you when you accomplish some 😉 )
Jessica says
That is quite the list. I hope you accomplish everything you want to do.
The Help is next up on my reading list also. We will have to compare our opinions when we finish.
Mrs. Weber says
Sounds good! I’m just waiting for it to become available at my local library and I’m all over it!
Becky Babcock says
Have I mentioned I love your blog? I look forward to your posts everyday! I could help you cross off some of your bucket list 🙂 5 – Sunsets, incredible up here (come visit) and then we can practice #6 together too! 8: Have you been to Traverse City? It’s a great town to visit and they have some amazing wineries (G & I took an anniversary trip to the Old MIssion Peninsula and stayed at a winery – what fun). #30: You can come up north (hint, hint) and channel through the Inland Water Way and swim in Burt Lake, Mullet Lake and Indian River 🙂
Keep this up – Love it!
Mrs. Weber says
I would LOVE to go for a long weekend up north! The trouble is the funding. Hoping we can make it work in the fall – I would love to tour wineries and do a color tour and come visit you. Thanks for being a loyal reader, Becky! I really appreciate your encouraging words 🙂
Mrs. Weber says
I know – it is a bit ambitious…but can’t knock a gal for trying, right? I may fail a few vacation weeks though!
Galit Breen says
I adore this! Count me in for the sand-toes-and beverage combo! XO
Mrs. Weber says
I know – can’t wait for it myself!
Elena says
I love this list! I’ll do some of them with you. 😉 I want to do a big list too. Before you know it – the summer can slip away.
Mrs. Weber says
I know! And yes, we have some work to do this summer, too 😉
Stephanie says
If you have any luck with #9, I’d love to hear them! Right now my little Lauren LOVES rice, sweet potatoes, and black beans. I’ve got one that’s yogurt, spinach, and pears in the works too…we’ll see what she thinks though! And don’t wish for the crawling…L has started, and my life has become chasing her around (perhaps I’ll lose my last 2 pounds that I’m going for, though!) Good luck on your list!
Mrs. Weber says
Oooh, I never thought of black beans! That sounds easy enough and different! Yes, I shouldn’t wish too hard for the crawling, I know. She’s just so curious about everything…and my abs hurt everyday from bending to show her things…it’ll be kind of nice when she can grab it herself 😉
michellaneous84 says
I just did this (a bit shortened though) on my blog: http://michmashmusings.wordpress.com/2011/06/23/summer-bucket-list/
Thanks for the idea, Lauren!
Mrs. Weber says
Hey girl! Awesome – glad I provided some inspiration. Can’t wait to check it out and excited to see you’re blogging!
Kimberly says
Oooh, the sand between my toes with an adult beverage? Yes, please! The Help is next on my list too, I just have to finish another one first. We should compare when we’re done!
Mrs. Weber says
Sounds like a plan!
Kimberly at Rubber Chicken Madness says
Love your list. And The Help is a fabulous read! Find a hammock (and a babysitter) and just dig in and revel in it!
Stopped by from Mama Kat’s. Hope your summer is as fabulous as you planned!
Mrs. Weber says
Thanks! The name of your blog intrigues me…I’ll be sure to stop by 🙂 Happy summer!
tania says
ooh what’s fruit pizza?? sounds yummy!
Mrs. Weber says
Let me tell you – it’s amazing! Check out this recipe: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/fruit-pizza-i/detail.aspx Can’t go wrong with all that sugar 😉 At least the healthy fruit balance it…somewhat!

Love your list! Another local freebie…nature centers. Some I’ve been to with my kids: Sterling Heights (also has a nice play ground), Madison Heights (nice paved nature trail), Belle Isle (also don’t miss the conservatory – there’s a pond outside and gardens), Stoney Creek & Metro Beach (great Tot Lot & Splash Pad)- $5 per car or I think $20 for an annual Metro Parks pass.
