Spring is officially here…Now will April showers bring May flowers? Only time will tell, but I sure hope so!

April 1
- Happy April Fool’s Day! No need for cruel jokes, even something as simple on Googly eyes on all the items in your kids’ snacks would be cute and fun 😉
April 2
- Have you ever made a spring bucket list? Get inspired with this list of 50+ ideas for things to do this spring
April 3
- This day is National Find a Rainbow Day! Make rainbow art such as these cute cardboard rainbows, rainbow rice, create a rainbow volcano, or do a rainbow science experiment.
- If you have a science-loving kiddo, check out the slew of cool events MSU is offering for their annual Science Festival. There truly is something for all ages happening all month long!
- If looking for an outdoor idea, try disc golfing as a family. Most courses are free to visit.
April 4
Head biking! A few ideas: The bike trail at Hartland’s Settlers Park, the bike pump track in Hines Park in Westland, the Dequindre Cut in Detroit or the Lakeland Trail in Pinckney.
April 5
- Visit Michigan Science Center in Detroit for FREE! {Get tickets and learn more at this post.}
- Check out Ann Arbor’s annual FoolMoon and Festifools event.
- Register to attend Cranbrook Institute of Science’s FREE First Friday, and get admission from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Must register if you’re visiting after 5 p.m.
- Celebrate the Tiger’s home opener! If you can’t attend the festivities, it sounds like a fun excuse to buy hot dogs, peanuts and Cracker Jack for dinner.
April 6
- Check out a FREE Kids’ Workshop at Home Depot. This month’s project is a lattice planter. Learn more and register here.
- Visit the MSU Broad Art Museum in East Lansing for a FREE Family Fun Day from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Registration encouraged.
- Take a tour of the Fisher Building in Detroit with Pure Detroit. There are multiple Saturdays available. $14/person.
- Visit the Flint Institute of Arts — it’s FREE every Saturday.
- Celebrate all things unicorn at Carousel Acres in South Lyon from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. $9/person; $7/ride.
- Head to Schell Family Farm in Pinckney for a FREE egg hunt. Canned donations encouraged.
April 7
- Visit the Michigan History Center in Lansing. It’s FREE every Sunday from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
- Head to Michaels Stores for a FREE MakeBreak workshop to make an abstract painting from 2-4 p.m. Purchase a canvas; all other supplies are included. Learn more here.
- Visit Comerica Park for the first Kids’ Day event for the Detroit Tigers. Grab tix here.
April 8
- Eclipse Day! Learn about what this means and if your area will experience totality at this link. {Make sure to purchase eclipse glasses as well since it’s not safe for you to look into the sun during this time!}
- If you have an EBT or WIC card, you can visit the Flint Children’s Museum for FREE through May. Learn more here. {They also have a new exhibit opening this month, so check it out!}
April 9
- Happy opening day to the Lansing Lugnuts! {We love an excuse to visit this amazing stadium for an affordable family outing.}
- Visit Bower’s School Farm in Bloomfield Hills for open barn from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. $10/person for ages 2 and up.
April 10
- Visit the UofM Natural History Museum to see their new dinosaur exhibit. FREE.
- Cuddle with kittens at a Cat Cafe right here in Michigan. These are so fun for feline lovers!
April 11
Think about a small business your family loves…and then tell them how much you love them, either with a simple note, or write a review on Facebook, Yelp, Google, etc. Let’s teach our kids starting from a young age how important it is to show up and be kind to those brave souls who own businesses. It’s not easy!
April 12
- Take a spring walk and climb the boulders at the Carpenter Lake Nature Trail in Southfield. This spot is SO fun and has a great, short paved hike for littles and strollers. FREE.
- Head geocaching as a family. Bring a trash bag to collect items to properly dispose them.
April 13
- Check out Michaels Stores to make a FREE paper bouquet collage with Kids Club from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
- Visit JCPenney for their Kids Zone activity from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. This month is making a ream catcher. FREE.
- Greenfield Village is now open! Visit for the ultimate educational field trip. This year, adults are $35, youth and senior are $27.25, and children 4 and under are free. Purchase online to save a few dollars! Or, if weather isn’t great, check out the interactive Paw Patrol exhibit inside The Henry Ford Museum, included with museum admission.
April 14
- Visit the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History for FREE thanks to the Second Sundays program.
- Celebrate all things unicorn at Carousel Acres in South Lyon from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. $9/person; $7/ride.
April 15
- Butterflies In The Garden is returning to Michigan State University in East Lansing through April 30. Weekends only, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and FREE.
April 16
- Head out on a trek for tulips. If you can’t get to Holland this time of year, take a drive around your area to spot them. Many downtowns plant them and they spread so much joy.
April 17
- Plan a visit to a playground or several, and have your kids rate them. This is such a fun FREE activity! {We loved doing this in Livingston County in the past.}
April 18
- Head to Impression 5 in Lansing for the Scooby Doo! Mansion Mayhem exhibit, which is on display through May 12. Admission is $12 for adults and children ages 2+, $10.50 for seniors and military members {and immediate family} and $2 with the Museums for All program, which admits guests with a valid ID and EBT, Medicaid or WIC card.
- Visit the Cranbrook Institute of Science and Cranbrook Art Museum for FREE for their third Thursday promotion, courtesy of the Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan. Receive free admission to Cranbrook Institute of Science from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. AND Cranbrook Art Museum from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Learn more here.
April 19
- Head to the library for some fresh reads to take and enjoy outside in the sunshine.
- Paint cute rocks to hide in your community. These bring so much joy!
April 20
- Visit Lowe’s to make a FREE garden cart planter. Register here.
- Head to University of Michigan for their spring football game. Admission is FREE.
- Head to the Howell Nature Center for an early Earth Day Celebration, included with Wildlife Park admission.
- Honor the legacy of Earth Day by giving back to nature with a variety of volunteer projects available to restore habitat and maintain Fenner Nature Center in Lansing. 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. FREE.
April 21
- Create an obstacle course using chalk. We love doing this and seeing neighbor kids do what we’ve written {i.e. spin, hop, turn in a circle}.
- Head to Michaels Stores for a FREE MakeBreak workshop to make a tie-dye shirt from 2-4 p.m. Purchase a t-shirt; all other supplies are included. Learn more here.
- Visit Ann Arbor for a FREE Earth Day Festival at the Leslie Science & Nature Center.
April 22

April 23
- Today is National Picnic Day. Pack a picnic and visit a new park, or spread a blanket on the floor inside if it’s raining. If the wind is decent, try flying a kite.
- If it has been awhile, check out the Michigan Activity Pass program to see what’s new or plan some places to visit for free/discounted this summer.
April 24
- Inspire your family to do some spring cleaning. Our much needed spots this time of year are the medicine cabinet, inside our vehicles, and the garage. Ask the kids to help!
- Gather friends and plan a scavenger hunt in your town.
April 25
- Chalk your walk! Write inspirational quotes and draw happy pictures on your sidewalk or at a public playground to make others’ smile. {This always makes my heart sing!}
- Grab combo tickets for both Sloan Museum and Longway Planetarium for an entire day of fun on the beautiful Flint Cultural Campus.
April 26
- Let your child take a friend to visit murals or nature-filled spots in your area for a fun photoshoot.
- Be on the lookout for U-pick asparagus soon for a fun way to show kids where our food comes from.
- With weather warming up, take the time to find a new spot for ice cream and give them a try.
April 27
- Visit a new hiking trail. Here are 30+ family-friendly loop trails in Southeast Michigan.
- Check out Michaels Stores to make a FREE friendship bracelet with Kids Club from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
- Visit Potter Park Zoo for a Party for the Planet event, which is included with regular admission.
April 28
- Head to Kensington Metropark to check out the baby animals at the farm and feed the birds like a Disney princess around the nature center!
- Celebrate National Stop Food Waste Day by using up leftovers or try a recipe using items you find in your fridge that may be close to expiration. If you have older kids, empower them to try to cook something with items you have on hand. {We also love composting. See if your city sells larger composters — many do for a great price!}
April 29
- Get a head start to summer and nab the supplies to make one of these personalized tie-dye towels.
- If weather permits, cook dinner over a bonfire.
April 30
- Gear up for summer gardening by making a gnome or fairy garden.
- If school is ending soon, make a paper chain countdown to count down the days. {I know my kids will be ready!}
