February may be a short month, but there’s plenty of time to make it memorable. It’s the month of LOVE, Black History Month, and plenty of winter-themed fun. Get inspired with adventures and educational experiences around southeast Michigan with this list of ideas!

February 1
- Kick off the month in a positive way by creating these fun and encouraging heart notes for each day leading up to Valentine’s Day. My kids LOVE this tradition!
- The Plymouth Ice Festival runs through today. This is one of the area’s most premier winter events and it’s FREE to visit. Learn more about all the events here.
- Visit Michaels crafts in-store to make a fun heart painting. Just purchase the canvas and Michaels will provide the rest of the supplies for free.
- We are heading to the Breslin to see MSU vs. UofM women’s basketball. It’s super affordable and SO fun! {Note: They also play in Ann Arbor on Feb. 15.}
February 2
Happy Groundhog Day! Will the little critter see a shadow? Make your prediction, and then watch Michigan’s own groundhog, Woody, make her prediction live with the Howell Nature Center. Learn more here. Kick off starts at 7:30 a.m. FREE to attend.
February 3
There is no better place in Michigan to celebrate Black History Month than The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit. Check out their programming for the month to attend a special event, or just wander the museum on your own time.
February 4
- Purchase tickets to see Phantom of the Opera, in Detroit through February 15.
- Visit the new Ice Dinosaurs exhibit at Sloan Museum in Flint, which runs through May 3. Tickets include entry to Sloan and are $25/adults and $17/youth.
February 5
Check out a weekly $3 kids’ movie at Emagine Theaters for their Winter Kids’ Series. $5 for a Magic Pack as well.
February 6
Visit Cranbrook Institute of Science on the 1st Friday of Each Month for FREE courtesy of the MASCO Corporation. Registration required.
February 7
- Start the morning off making a penguin mailbox at a FREE Home Depot Kids’ Workshop. Learn more here. Workshop runs from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
- Make a FREE Valentine’s card at Michael’s stores for one of their Kid’s Club events.
- Enjoy a FREE day at the Flint Institute of Art every Saturday, thanks to Huntington.
- Visit Depot Park in Clarkston for a FREE Winterfest event from 12-3 p.m.
February 8
- Visit Michaels crafts in-store to make a Valentine’s mason jar. Just purchase the mason jar and Michaels will provide the rest of the supplies for free!
- This day brings the Super Bowl! Celebrate with all the delicious foods and check out this fun game to play {2026 version coming soon!}.
February 9
Plan a date or family day at an Escape Room. We love Escape Room Novi for a good challenge! {Recommended for ages 8+ with adult help.}
February 10
If you have a child ages 0-5, check out a FREE playdate with Great Start Livingston at the Legacy Center Fieldhouse in Brighton from 10:30-11:30 a.m. {Full disclosure, I work with Great Start and would love to meet you if you’re local to me and have littles!}

Get crafty and make some Valentine’s to send to others — grandparents, local police/EMS/firefighters, or local nursing homes.
February 12
Nab tickets to Disney On Ice: Search Party, playing through February 15. Tickets start at $35.
February 13
Check out a candlelight concert with string instruments in Ann Arbor. Tickets start at $49.
February 14
- Happy Valentine’s Day! It’s a great day for pancakes with sprinkles, love notes and alllll the heart shaped foods. Also, check out these ideas for a date night in or a date night out!
- Head to Hartland for their FREE annual Winterfest event featuring sledding, entertainment, food, ice skating and a fireworks show at dusk.
- Enjoy a FREE SciCurious event at MSU Museum in East Lansing from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. to explore science.
- Make a FREE Valentine’s keychain or a Mardi Gras mask at Michael’s stores for one of their Kid’s Club events.
- It’s FREE Fishing Weekend in the state of Michigan. Grab an ice fishing pole and have some fun on the ice. All fishing license fees will be waived. Additionally, a Recreation Passport will NOT be required for entry into state parks and boating access sites during Free Fishing Weekend.
February 15
- Don’t forget that the Michigan History Center in Lansing is FREE every Sunday from 1-5 p.m.
- Take the kids cross-country skiing. There are lots of places that do rentals! {Read about our experience at Huron Meadows here and make sure to check conditions before heading out to ensure the trails are groomed.}
- Visit Michaels crafts in-store to make a Spring Charm Bracelet. Just purchase the charms you’d like and Michaels will provide the rest of the supplies for free.
- Try your hand at Plant Bingo at Howell Nature Center! $35/person. Tickets will sellout, so grab them here.
February 16
- Today is President’s Day! Take the time to learn all about our U.S. presidents. Visit the library for inspiration, or check Pinterest for cool crafts to celebrate.
- Plan a local adventure of snow tubing at Bowers Farm School in Bloomfield Hills or at Hawk Island Park in Lansing.
February 17
Let the kids burn energy at Kids Gotta Play in New Hudson for open play. {$8/child – weekdays only}
February 18
Go glow-in-the-dark mini-golfing at the Putting Edge in Novi — just make sure to reserve a time in advance.
February 19
Consider planning a road trip to Grand Rapids for the World of Winter. Lots of events happening until March 1.
February 20
Check out a candlelight concert featuring music from Queen and The Beatles in Ann Arbor. Tickets start at $49.

- Visit Lowe’s for a DIY Kids’ Workshop to make a birdhouse from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Register in advance.
- Make a FREE Chenille Stem Spring Flower at Michael’s stores for one of their Kid’s Club events.
- Take a tour of the Fisher Building in Detroit with Pure Detroit. There are multiple Saturdays available in February.
February 22

Check out Curling Fest in Chelsea and enjoy one hour of curling on the pristine ice of the Arctic Coliseum, all equipment included. $30/person, and includes food. 8 p.m. – 11 p.m. Ages 14+.
February 25
If there is fresh snow, make some snow ice cream. It’s actually pretty tasty! We love this recipe.
February 26
Go ice skating at Riley Park Ice Rink in Farmington or at another local rink.
February 27
- Today is National Pokémon Day. Spend it playing Pokémon Go, a fun and interactive game that inspires adventure.
- If you have some car lovers in your house, consider checking out Autorama in Detroit. Tickets start at $10 for children and $28 for adults when purchased in advance.
February 28
- Go to the University of Michigan’s Natural History Museum in Ann Arbor for a FREE public tour. After, head over to County Farm Park for their annual Ice Carving Festival, which is also FREE.
- Escape the cold and plan a visit to an arcade. We love Dave & Busters {Livonia and Utica} and The Arcade in Brighton.
- Make a FREE Spring Beaded Butterfly at Michael’s stores for one of their Kid’s Club events.
- Take a FREE lantern-lit hike at Island Lake State Recreation in Brighton from 6-9 p.m.
